Climate change: who pays the price? PDF Print E-mail

While decades have been spent debating the causes of climate change, little attention has been paid to addressing its effects. And those effects are being felt now.

Following the successful Jesuit Lenten Series held in Melbourne and Sydney, JRS Associate Director, Dr Maryanne Loughry, has spoken out about the impacts of climate change on the people of Kiribati. As reported in The Age on the weekend, rising sea levels have contaminated and destroyed arable land in Pacific nations such as Kiribati. Life will soon become untenable, and the Pacific region must soon accommodate unprecedented numbers of refugees.

To read the full text of Dr Loughry's speach at the seminar series, go to Eureka Street where you will be able to download the document and also an mp3 audio file.
